Terms of Service

Effective date: October 22, 2026 · Version 2026-09-27

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and Harry Singh ("we", "us", "our") and govern your use of the Canadian Civics website and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, or by checking a box to accept these Terms, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Please read Sections 2, 8 and 9 carefully. The Service is an independent, informational resource. It is provided "as is", and our liability to you is limited to the extent permitted by law.

1. About the Service

The Service presents information about Canadian governments, elected officials, electoral districts and boundaries, legislation and votes, compiled from public and third-party sources. The Service is independent: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any government, legislature, election agency, political party or candidate.

2. Information only — verify before you rely on it

Content on the Service, including maps, boundaries, representative details, summaries, and any automatically generated or AI-assisted content:

You are solely responsible for your decisions. Before relying on any information — especially about where, when or how to vote, your electoral district, or who represents you — confirm it with official sources, such as Elections Canada, the House of Commons, your provincial or territorial election agency and legislature, and your municipality.

3. Accounts

Some features may require an account. You must provide accurate information, keep your password confidential, and are responsible for activity under your account. Administrator accounts are for authorized people only and must be used solely to maintain the Service's content.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

5. Content and intellectual property

Public-sector and open data shown on the Service remains subject to its original licence and attribution requirements (for example, the Open Government Licence – Canada and the OpenStreetMap ODbL). Subject to those licences, the Service's design, software and original content are owned by us or our licensors. You may view and share the Service's pages for personal, non-commercial and educational purposes with attribution; other uses need our written permission.

6. Third-party services and links

The Service relies on and links to third-party websites, data and map services. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or practices.

7. Changes and availability

We may change, suspend or discontinue all or part of the Service at any time, and may suspend access that breaks these Terms. The Service is provided on an "as available" basis and we do not promise it will be uninterrupted.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service and all content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties or conditions of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including implied warranties or conditions of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and uninterrupted or error-free operation.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, opportunity or goodwill, or for any decision or action taken (or not taken) in reliance on the Service, arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms, however caused and even if we were advised of the possibility. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose, and (b) fifty Canadian dollars (CAD $50).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited by contract.

10. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, liabilities and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or your breach of these Terms.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version with a new effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to any mandatory consumer protection laws where you live, you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada.

13. General

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
